GPO Binoculars

GPO Binoculars

The German Precision Optics (GPO) is one of the latest entrants in the Premium Binoculars World. Like its name suggests, GPO originates from Germany. It has its HQ in Germany where its main production takes place.

However, the company also has another one of its design and engineering divisions in North America within Midlothian, Virginia. The company was developed by experienced optics designers who have worked for some of the best spotting optics companies in the world.

What Makes GPO Unique?

GPO has what they refer to as “unique corporate structure” system. German Precision Optics attributes their success and the production of all their superior quality bins to this model of operation.

They provide favorable prices just as you will find from other top tier brands across Europe and more specifically in Germany such as Zeiss, Leica, and Swarovski.

German Precision Optics (GPO) Range

Unlike some other top rated models that you may know, German Precision Optics doesn’t have several series to their name. However, for the few that they have, they have designed some of the top range products.

The range is prospected to grow with time and it won’t be a surprise in a few decades if you find GPO with many other improved binocular models. Here are the GPO Models that we have today.

  • GPO Passion HD Binoculars
  • GPO Passion ED Binoculars
  • GPO Passion Binoculars

GPO Passion HD Binoculars

The GPO Passion HD Binoculars Series is the flagship model from German Precision Optics. Passion HD consists of the five roof prism designs from GPO.

The models boast several premium features coupled with interesting design, aspects, and innovations.

A good example of the top rated features form this series of binoculars is that they use more than one extra-low ED dispersion element in their lenses.

This technology of two ED glasses in a lens is called the “Double HD glass technology” and it reduces any forms of chromatic aberrations. This feature is only common to the high-end photographic lenses.

Apart from the double glass technology, Passion HD series from GPO also comes with other top rated features such as these:

GPObright Lens Coatings

GPObright is the patented coating process that will maximize light transmission through every surface of the bins optical element. This technology ensures that up to 99.7% of the light available passes through every optical surface. It properly coats the entire optical system to make the HD series binocular “bright,” even under lowest light conditions. GPObright lens coatings offer a transmittance of 99.7%.

Double HD Lenses

A Double HD lens is created if you laminate multiple extra-low dispersion lenses chemically into a single lens. The end result is a multilayer lens with an extra high-performance optical capacity.

When two or more lenses are laminated, light reflection is properly minimized on the surface of these multiple lenses to create an enhanced resolution and contrast images. This same technology also minimizes any chromatic aberrations.

GPO Passion ED Binoculars

Even though GPO Passion ED Binoculars Series is not the flagship model, it is still another premium quality series. Passion ED series has a few design differences to their exterior and comes in several colors.

That’s not all.  They also differ in cost with the HD series. In addition to that, the ED series uses the “normal” ED glass lens instead of Double HD lenses.  The Passion ED binoculars also lack hydrophobic exterior coatings on the lens.

GPO Passion Series Binoculars

The GPO Passion Series Binoculars is the other series from this top designer. It is the Standard Passion series and the budget friendly option too. These bins are characterized with large objective lenses.

They have two models here with large 56mm objective lenses each. Apart from their larger lenses, the other difference between the Passion and the other two models is the use of the standard low dispersion glass in their lenses rather than the Extra-low dispersion glass element in the lenses.

Well, this makes it easy to manufacture, it doesn’t lower the quality of images. The images are still clear and high contrast images, same as what it produced by the ED glass binoculars above too. Sometimes the experience is even better that the ED glass systems.

Spectra series are built to provide excellent light transmission and higher color contrast. They also give better image resolution.

Their main difference with the ED series is in the type of glass used on the front objective lenses. Spectra are made of high transmission glass while the ED series are made with the premium extra low dispersion – ED glass.

Apart from that, the remaining features in the Spectra and the ED are the same and include majorly what is listed below:
