Barr & Stroud Optics is a British company founded in 1891 by Archibald Barr and William Stroud. The two opticians were approached by the Royal Navy Admiralty during the World War I to design the best short-base rangefinder.
This was to counter the production of Zeiss Binoculars in German that the British Forces saw as an advantage. In 1919 Barr & Stroud produced their first binoculars and supplied them to the British Navy,
The brand was a hit and soon stretched over to the World War II. Since then, Barr & Stroud Optics binoculars have played a major role in the improvement and development of the modern optics. Today, they also double to design some of the best Monoculars, Microscopes, and Spotting Scopes.
However, worth mentioning is that some of the Barr & Stroud optics are still not available to the US markets.
